Özet
Zinc is an essential element with daily requirements of 15 mg in adults and adolescents. Requirements are higher in children in relation to body weight. Signs and symptoms of zinc deficiency in human being are failure to thrive, hypogonadism in male, cutaneous changes, anorexia, mental depression, delayed wound healing and infections. Acute and chronic zinc deficiency can be seen in deseases as malabsorbtion, sickle cell disease cirrhosis of liver total parenteral nutrition, burns and renal diseases including nephrotic syndrom and renel tubuler dysfunction. Since zinc deficiency due to dietary insufficiency is seen in certain areas of the world diagnosis is not difficult. However zinc deficiency that develops during certain diseases mentioned above can lead to serious problems such as delayed wound healing and growth retardation. So earlydiagnosis and treatment is important.
