Özet
Background and aim: Various tracheostomy techniques have been proposed for patients who are dependent on long-term mechanical ventilation support. The purpose of the present study was to retrospectively evaluate the results of blue rhino and balloon- assisted tracheostomy procedures. Material and methods: We retrospectively investigated the medical records of 16 patients who underwent percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy and stayed in the long-term critical care unit of Ulus State Hospital between January 2013 and August 2013. The gathered data included age, gender, APACHE II score, processing time, processing difficulties, bleeding amount, tracheostomyopening day, length of stay in the intensive care unit, and complications. Results: There were 10 cases of blue rhino (Group 1) and 6 cases of balloon-assisted (Group 2) tracheostomy in this study. No statistically relevant differences were determined between the two groups with regards to age, gender, APACHE II score, processing time, processing difficulties, bleeding amount, tracheostomy-opening day, and length of stay in the intensive care unit, and complications. The procedural time for insertion was 3.6 min in Group 1 and 3.9 min in Group 2. Conclusion: We concluded that both blue rhino and balloon-assisted tracheostomy methods might be feasibly reliable.
