Özet
Breast cancer is the predominant cancer in women to be diagnosed and the most common reason for cancer-related deaths in women. Mastectomy remains a common treatment in numerous regions. Post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS) can occur in patients who have had surgery. PMPS occurs following mastectomy or axillary dissection and persists for a duration beyond 3 months. It is characterized as long-lasting discomfort in the breast, front part of the chest wall, armpit, and/or upper portion of the arm. Potential risk factors for PMPS encompass being under the age of 40-50, having a body mass index (BMI) exceeding 26, undergoing radiation, experiencing preoperative pain, sustaining nerve injury during surgery, undergoing axillary lymph node dissection, and having preoperative stress, anxiety, or depression. PMPS is characterized by persistent neuropathic pain confined to the axilla, mid-upper arm, breast, and/or chest wall. Patients suffer from persistent pain in the one-sided front wall of the chest, armpit, or upper arm immediately or shortly after undergoing a mastectomy or removal of a tumor. Currently, the treatment of PMPS involves the use of pharmaceutical therapies, regional anesthetic techniques, physical therapy, botox, and surgical treatments.
