Özet
Meconium aspiration is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality during the neonatal period. The incidence of symptomatic meconium aspiration syndrome appears to be reduced by a combined obstetric and pediatric approach, but it does not always prevent fatal meconium aspiration syndrome. The present study analyzes the incidence and outcome of MAS at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital in the last two years. During a two year period, 890 (10.2%) of 8720 live born infants had meconium-stained fluid and 52 (0.6%) developed meconium aspiration syndrome and 6 infants died. In this article these cases are reviewed and the causes of mortality are discussed.
