Özet

Introduction: The short-term results of bulbourethral male sling operation in patients with post-prostatectomy incontinence were evaluated. Materials and Methods: A total of 13 male patients with post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence who underwent bulbourethral male sling operation between June 2004 and February 2006 were evaluated. All patients except one (4-5 pads/d) had total urinary incontinence. 5 patients underwent radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP), 4 had transvesical prostatectomy (TVP), and other 4 cases had transurethral prostatectomy (TUR-p) as the cause of urinary incontinence. Additionally, 7 patients had a history of internal urethrotomy due to stricture, and 2 patients were found to have undergone bladder neck injection to prevent incontinence prior to admission. The mean period of incontinence was 32.2 months (6-60 months) before the operation. 16 procedures were performed in 13 patients. The patients were evaluated after bulbourethral sling operation and classified as cure, improvement, and no change. Results: The mean age of patients at operation was 70.5 years (range: 62-79 yrs). The mean follow-up period was 14.5 months (range: 3-24). Six of 13 patients (46%) were dry, five (38%) were improved, and 2 patients (16%) were incontinent. The overall success rate was found to be 84%. The repetitive operations were performed in these failed cases. Suprapubic tract infection was found in one and perineal numbness was present in 4 cases. Conclusion: The bulbourethral male sling operation in short-term period is safe and effective in controlling urinary incontinence due to the insufficiency of external sphincter in men after prostate surgery. The large studies with longer term follow-up period are warranted.
